How To: Advanced Silkscreen Printing Workshop (UV Emulsion)

$120 Per Pax

Walk around town with your very own silkscreen printed tote bag.

Employing the UV emulsion technique, an industry standard for T-shirts, fine art and more, you’d be delving into the technical aspect of this visual art dating to 1279 (during Song Dynasty, China). Made popular by the likes of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichenstein with their eclectic pop art styles, silkscreen has become a medium of expression

*Participants need to prepare or confirm their design before attending the workshop.

Please let us know your preferred date and time in the e-mail, vacancies depends on availability.

All our workshops are by appointment only.

The use of printmaking tools and materials are included in the fee.

The Curriculum

Duration: 2 to 2.5 Hours

  1. Learn the technique behind silkscreen printing with UV-exposed emulsion.

    1. Learn how to plan and prepare screen for printing.

    2. Learn how to use the screen coater to coat the emulsion onto screen.

    3. Learn about screen exposing and how to troubleshoot.

    4. Learn how to align screen to final print.

    5. Learn how to print using squeegee and create split fountain.

Participants will be able to bring home the silkscreen frame, their uniquely printed works and their tote bag.

Silkscreen is a fun but technical process and involves troubleshooting. As part of the workshop, you'll go into the details of creating the frame, and you may require additional time to troubleshoot and/or redo some of the steps.

We would be suggesting buffering an additional 30mins-60mins, should you have plans after the workshop.

Take Note

  • Due to limited studio space, we could only fit maximum of 5 participants.

  • Please take note of your dressing, try not to wear your favourite or best, just in case you might get ink stains.

  • Please be punctual, and observe hygiene practices.

  • You are allowed to bring in your snacks and drinks.

  • The duration of the workshop may be shortened or extended depending on the participant’s process.

Design Requirements/Restrictions

  • You can provide us with the design, or choose from existing designs we have in our studio.

  • You'll be doing a one-layer print, meaning it would only be one colour. The design must be of a solid colour, with no hairline details and no gradient.

  • Text is required to be at least font size 30 and in bold.

  • Do note that the screen is A4 size, with some space allowance (for silkscreen ink loading during the printing stage).

  • As fellow artists and printmakers, we do not feel comfortable printing other artists' artwork without their permission. If you're able to get the artist's permission to recreate it, we'll be more than happy to proceed with the designs.
