How To: Advanced Linocutting and Printing Workshop

Linocut is a relief printmaking technique, is a variant of woodcarving.

This workshop is catered to those wanting to expand their skills and knowledge on linocutting and linoprinting.

This workshop is for participants who completed basic workshop only.

All our workshops are by appointment only.

The use of printmaking tools and materials are included in the fee.


The Curriculum

Duration: Minimum 6 to 8 Hours (Breaks are permitted following the introduction, hours can be spread over several days.)

Duration is dependent on participant learning and cutting speed. Should the duration be insufficient, participants can arrange to return on the following day, or reschedule to complete their linocut print.

  1. Learn about different types of linoleum and try out different types of linocutters.

  2. Learn how to transfer more detailed/intricate images in various ways onto the linoleum.

  3. Learn how to plan on and cut linoleum for multi-colour print.

  4. Learn how to do the print alignment for a multi-colour print.

  5. Learn how to prepare and apply ink for split fountain (gradient) print.

Participants will be able to bring home their carved linoleum pieces and unique print in a wooden frame.

Take Note

  • Due to limited studio space, we could only fit maximum of 5 participants.

  • Please take note of your dressing and try not to wear your favourite or best outfits as you may get ink stains.

  • Please be punctual and observe hygiene practices.

  • You are allowed to bring in snacks and drinks.

Design Requirements/Restrictions

  • You can provide us with the design, or choose from existing designs we have in our studio.

  • Text is required to be at least font size 30pt.

  • Do note that the linoleum size is 18 x 18cm.

  • As fellow artists and printmakers, we do not feel comfortable printing other artists' artwork without their permission. If you're able to get the artist's permission to recreate it, we'll be more than happy to proceed with the designs.
